One of my favorite things I love about my Aunt Pete,( also known as Aunt Alma who is Mom’s sister) among many other things is her Candied Yams. I always look forward to family gatherings where I know she will be making this dish that makes me love sweet potatoes soooo much. This recipe has the right amount of sweetness, the potatoes don’t get mushy, and it isn’t complicated with too many ingredients.
I’ve tried veering off by adding spice like cinnamon and nutmeg, and sometimes a little lemon juice, but really it just wasn’t needed. And I never even seen or tasted a Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallows until later on in life. I think I’ll stick to Candied Yams thank you until I find one that’s worth the calories. Any ideas?
I try to do her recipe justice, and they are good, but somehow the ones that come out of her skillet seem to taste better. Maybe because she made them with love.
Don’t even think about having Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner without these, but I wouldn’t wait for a special occasion to enjoy these.
I’ve been known to enjoy these with a cup of coffee in the morning.
I’m confident that with this recipe and your love to make them, they will be really really close to my Aunt Pete’s too.
