I really do love shopping. I remember wonderful times with my Mom, Aunt Pete, my sister and me planning where we were going on Black Friday and on Boxing Day or the day after Christmas. We would wake up before the crack of dawn to get to the stores early.
It always amazed me how my mom could shop for 3 kids with us in tow and still keep out gifts a secret until Christmas Day. Mommy magic I suppose.
I love to window shop just as much as if I was buying something. This also started my love for window dressing and styling. A good window display is real art and gets those bodies in the door or just to have people dream about the life the mannequins are living.
Century City Plaza in Century City has gone through a major overhaul which seemed to have taken years. It has added many new stores and new sites for old stores.
I was extremely excited to see one of my favorite online stores finally come to the West Coast, Terrain. Terrain is one of the stores under the Urban Outfitters umbrella like Anthropologie, Free People, and BHLDN. All of which are represented at Century City.
I have been eyeing and buying Terrain gifts throughout my years working at Anthropologie and dreaming of visiting the store in Pensilvania.
Although they predominately sell all things for the garden, this store is only a very small selection of what they offer. You can find lovely home goods and food gifts that would make any nature lover happy. shopterrain.com
I can’t not have chocolate on my list of gift giving. A welcome gift anytime of year. One place to share your love of chocolate and design is at Compartes. These designer chocolate bars and bites, ( I must mention that a few of the chcoclate bar packaging was designed by none other than the design queen Kelly Werstler ), have cultivated a pretty good following including myself. The flavors include Pecan Sea Turtle, Matcha, Rocky Road, and many bars that have bits of cereal, dried fruit and rose petals. The designs make you want to try every flavor. It was very hard making up my mind but as you can see below I didn’t leave empty handed.
Speaking of sweets, don’t miss Sugarfina. This happy and colorful candy shop appeals to both the kid and the adult inside you.Check out travel trunk filled with selections of candy you pick yourself.
A gift worthy for the girl or guy in your life who has everything.
I almost, I mean, I DID loose my mind when I entered Eataly! A huge emporium of everything Italian. From packaged goods to fresh produce, cheeses, pasta, a butcher, fish monger, bakeries, an array of gifts and cookbooks, and a few outlets to get food to go or eat in.
The restaurants menu is small but you should be able to find something you’ll like, even for gluten free diets. We ordered the Ciao de Pepe and the Beet Salad with grapefruit and goat cheese. Be aware that all of the pasta is served aldente’.
Check out what we bought below. The Lemon Panetone was sooo good and fresh! They had at least 15 different varieties to choose from. I prepared the Lemon Pepper Pasta with a simple butter and pecorino and romano cheese sauce with lots of cracked pepper. I’ll be making that again!
I made a wonderful Black and Red Walnut Ravioli with the walnut sauce. The amarretto cookies were soft and filled with a punch of espresso. Very good. And last but not least, the best foccacia I ever has was the red onion and rosemary. OMG! So soft and flavorful. When we went back a second time they were sold out! so you need to get there early.
We have all heard of the famous Lauderee’ Pastry shop in France. There is a beautiful one at The Grove shopping Center. Among their famous macaroons, they also have lunch selections where you can eat outside. I think my favorite flavor is the tangerine. A fresh burst of citrus.
Please read my review of the Lauderee’ Sucre’ CookBook here.
Another highly anticipated bakery opening was the Dominique Ansel Bakery also found at The Grove. There are still long lines depending on the time of day, but you are still able to munch on the famous croughnut or other pastries they have to offer like this made to order S’mores on a stick which you saw one of the girls making in the video up top. The S’more is filled with toasted coconut, chocolate and nuts. What a wonderful surprise.
I hope you have the best gift giving ever this year!
